Mulvarra House

Mulvarra House is a new workshop and retreat centre located in the village of St Mullins on the River Barrow. We run weekend workshops and retreats primarily in the areas of yoga/meditation, traditional arts and crafts, and food. Located right on the border of Carlow, Kilkenny, and Wexford, we are an hour and a half away from Dublin. Waterford and Kilkenny are practically on our doorstep.

Your hosts, Tim and Linda, have created a wonderfully peaceful and relaxed environment at Mulvarra. While at Mulvarra, you will get to experience a truly magical landscape which surrounds the ancient monastic site of St Mullins, the jewel of the River Barrow. Whether you come to Mulvarra to practice yoga, unleash your creativity, paint, meditate, or just stay and rest and relax, you will come away feeling replenished and revived. At Mulvarra, we are very excited about food. Excited about where it comes from, how it is grown, how it is prepared, who you eat it with. As we are still in the early stages of developing Mulvarra and its Breathing Space, we are currently using fresh ingredients and organic food where we can but in the future we will grow our own food.We generally stick to vegetarian cooking in Mulvarra, although we are flexible and also cater to a variety of dietary restrictions. Vegetarian cooking is so versatile, you really don’t miss that piece of meat on your plate when it’s not there. Whatever your thoughts are on the topic, there is no denying that the meat production in most countries is not sustainable and certainly not animal friendly. When we do, very occasionally, prepare meat dishes we make sure it’s organically sourced.

Outdoor dining at Mulvarra

Outdoor dining is a cinch for us at Mulvarra House with the addition of two large timber decked areas both of which overlook the Barrow. On those long summer evenings, you can digest your food watching the sunset behind Brandon Hill to the west of St Mullins while the swallows wheel overhead. A totally magical way to finish any day in this truly enchanting valley. Food should be shared

A final aspect that is important to us is the part where you share your food. It is one thing to prepare it and eat it, it is equally important to share the love of eating a delicious meal with other people. All the meals you enjoy here at Mulvarra will be served in our cosy dining room, at a big table that seats everyone who is on the same retreat as you are. J.R.R. Tolkien was right: If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
